Through the Lens: Ayana V. Jackson

Having just returned from a really fun weekend in CancĂșn, I thought it would be fitting to look at the amazing African by Legacy, Mexican by Birth collection by photographer Ayana V. Jackson. As is the case throughout the Americas, Africans came into Mexico as slaves and left a mark on Mexican history and culture, even if that mark went unrecognized for years. Jackson, in collaboration with Marco Villalobos, created an major documentation of African history in Mexico and other countries and the impact of that history on present day Afro-Mexicans.

I recently read about an exhibition in Washington Post about this subject and wrote down several books to purchase about it. This one is going on the list. Thanks Brandie
