Sounds of Africa: The Sway Machinery
Ok - I'll start off by telling you that the Sway Machinery is not an African group. In fact it's a Brooklyn-based group that focuses of traditional Jewish music mixed up for the dance floor. But send this group to Mali for a music festival and they come home with a new album, The House of Friendly Ghosts Vol. I, that deliciously combines their own musical tastes with Malian influences, beats and artists. While Golden Wings is my absolute favorite, tracks like Gawad Teriamou and All the People make this group worth listening to over and over again. To hear more, check out this interview on NPR and plug them into Grooveshark to listening to the album.
