Sounds of Africa: Burkina Electric

Good Morning! Sorry for being missing in action yesterday. I spent the entire day flying half way across the world to get to Iraq. It's been such a while (haven't been back abroad since I was last in Iraq back in August) that I forgot how much I enjoying just the act of travelling. I love the feeling of transition that airports provide, that reminder that while everyone is going to separate destinations and have separate lives we are all in the same space for the same reason...to get from point A to point B. My trip found me in Jordan for the first time on a layover which I spent in the city of Amman for a few hours. While it was in the evening and I didn't get to see a lot of the city, my little tour through Jabal Amman and hanging out at a very chic little cafe was the perfect way to pass time until my connecting flight to Iraq.

Anyway, back to the main purpose of a Friday here on Out and About Africa: another group of musicians from Africa. This week I'm loving Burkina Electric. As the name may suggest, this group is all about mixing a little bit of West Africa with electric music making you want to hit the nearest dance (or living room) floor and jam to the beat!

Not only has this group been playing in spaces like the Lincoln Center where they teamed up with the dance company Armitage Gone!, but their new album Paspanga recently received great reviews from the New York Times.
Well that's it for the week! I hope you have a great weekend!
