Have you heard of the Zimbabwean singer - Chiwoniso Maraire? I had not until yesterday morning while listening to NPR and it was love at first listen. She was born and raised in the United States to Zimbabwean parents before moving back to Zimbabwe. Her music, while deeply African, has strong roots in the American music scene. Her new album, Rebel Woman, is available at a click of a button at iTunes.

um, are you kidding me? what a small world it is. my ex boyfriend is chi's (ex?)husband's brother, andy brown - an equally exceptional musician. chi and i spent much time together at gigs around zimbabwe ten years ago. she's fantastic!
