Reader Ju Padilha in Brazil introduced me earlier this week to the FABULOUS photography of Pierre Verger who traveled around Africa starting in the 1930s. His pictures are absolutely amazing and give such a wonderful view into so many cultures around the continent at that time. I find it especially beautiful when compared to modern images as I have done here with Verger's 1936 image of wrestlers in Niger and a recent image of wrestlers done by Adam in Sudan. I will definitely be showing more of this amazing photographer on this blog!! Thanks so much Ju!
