J.D. Okhai Ojeikere


African woman's hair stands alone in it's own category of amazing things about the continent. Whether covered in head scarves styled to reach the heavens or hair styles requiring the patience of only a saint, African women constantly exceed any preconceived notions of what one should do with hair.


At the forefront of documenting the African woman various hair styles is Nigerian photographer J.D. Okhair Ojeikere. Stretching further than any glossy magazines version of beauty, his images capture an every expanding definition of beauty and a separate category of art and creativity.

I've seen his photos before. There were some incredible Nigerian gele's that were a sight to behold. Their hair is magnificent.
